Hard Fought Victory for XLAN Indoor Cricket!
The XLAN cricket team scored a hard fought win over ‘Stoned and Confused’ on Monday night despite the hot conditions and missing a player.
The opposition won the toss and elected to bat scoring consistently and protecting their wickets throughout the first innings. XLAN struggled with only 5 players to cover the field positions and restrict the run rate. Some new fielding strategies including no wicket keeper and a roving sweeper were tried out to cut off the runs. The final total of 221 looked to be a lot of runs to get in the hot conditions but the XLAN team were confident of a run chase.
Fungus Mungus and Mark took the opening bowlers to task and put on a fantastic partnership of 92 for the first six overs. Consistent 3’s and the odd 5 and 7 kept the runs ticking over much to the delight of the patrons at the bar.
J and Solvent (coaxed out of retirement) then continued on with a 59 run partnership featuring some nice clean hitting and the odd stolen run. The opposition started becoming a little frustrated after a few close runout calls went against them and J began calling runs without running! The opposition received a warning for bad language.
The opposition then called Solvent into play again to finish off the innings with Venge. After some sloppy fielding and the sneaky pair stealing two additional runs, the frustration boiled over with Stoned and Confused receiving two penalties of five runs for language and equipment abuse. Solvy and Venge then set about rubbing salt into the wounds with some clever shot play and protecting their wickets. Finishing with a partnership of 64 XLAN ran out winners by 4 runs with the revised total of 211 for victory.
The team enjoyed the six-pack for biggest partnership for the third time in a row.
