XLANSA Triumph in Season Opener
Well, after the disappointment of not getting into the finals last season, XLANSA has cruised to a big win for their first game of the new season!
For Monday night's game we welcomed back Venge to his first game in 3 months due to injury.
So that meant we had a full team for once... until an unfortunate last minute withdrawal from -=[j]=- left us with 5 players.
Phantomx went into the trusty bar, knowing it has never failed the team in finding that last person to fill in. Mmmm - no one we knew, but sitting outside of the bar was Michael, from Runs ‘A’ Plenty. He was more than happy to help us out.
There were new papers to fill in and sign at this stage, so Phantomx missed the coin toss. Venge filled in and called tails, but it came up heads, and our competitors, MILF SEAMERS sent us in to bowl first.
MILF SEAMERS' first batting pair put on a fine stand, with 58 runs. When the next batting pair came in we grouped up and decided we needed to take more wickets if we were to win this game... which is what we did.
We had only taken 2 wickets at this stage, but by the end of the second set of overs we had added another 9 wickets, with 4 of them coming off of Solvent's bowling. His bowling went something like this: Caught, Run Out, Run Out, 4, Run Out, 3!
MILF STEAMERS only added 14 runs in the following overs, so there was a bit of pressure on the last batting pair. We didn’t take quite get as many wickets but we did manage to stop them scoring runs by keeping it off the net, so that they would only get 1 run per bowl.
Their last pair added 29, taking their score to 101.
Now it was our turn to go in and show them how it’s done! In went Phantomx to open with Scott. The runs came steadily and there were a few outs. They started off the innings with 52.
Next were Jeremy Fish and our fill-in, Michael. They both piled on the runs. In the second over they made 25 runs and then in the fourth over they made 31 runs. They added 85 runs to our tally, all told.
Last but definitely not least, Solvent and Venge. The runs came steadily with very few outs. With one ball to go, and XLANSA sitting on 196 Venge hit the ball into the net for 3, and the pair scampered over the crease for a single, which then took our score to 200!
Of the regular team members, Solvent top-scored in the batting and bowling, with 41 runs and -3 runs in his 6 overs. Nice work fella!
Thanks to Michael from Runs ‘A’ Plenty for filling in for us. We would love to see you next week at Camden Park ICA (aka The Beach), Morphett Road, at 8:15pm for the next game!
We have asked the sports centre for some early games, as we have had a lot of 9:30 times in the past. We will post up what times we play and if you want to come down like Jeremy Fish's friends Riley and Philippa have done the last few weeks then you are more than welcome!
