What is XLANSA? (Pronounced: Ex-Lan-Essay)
XLANSA, originally a loose association of game players, has grown into a community centred around Xbox gaming, LAN events and tournaments. At its core, XLANSA benefits from a dedicated group of individuals devoted to building a strong Xbox-centric gaming community. We concentrate on running high quality console LAN events and tournaments, however we also encourage social atmosphere through varied events that are not directly related to gaming.
What do we do?
Primarily we organise and run console LAN events. However being active folk, occasionaly we like to pop paint balls into each other, see the latest flick, or go for a quiet bike ride.
XLANSA Events
In an effort to provide players with new challenges our tournaments and events take many different formats, continually evolving as new games are released. ‘Halo: Running Riot’ included both a team competition and a free-for-all competition. ‘Halo: Survivor’ was a tournament with a twist; it was based on the TV show "Survivor", forcing players to use both skill with Halo and some political manipulation of contestants’ votes to win. We have taken LANs to regional locations, such as our ‘Blood and Sand’ LAN that was held at Victor Harbour and our ‘Head Hunter’ LAN at Port Minlacowie. We also ran the state Halo qualifiers for the World Cyber Games in 2004 and in 2005.
Boomtang Events
Boomtang is XLANSA's premier event. The first Boomtang event had 30 participants. This number doubled in growth to 63 players in Boomtang II, and the event has been steadily evolving since. XLANSA held Boomtathlon in 2006, a quest for the ultimate gamer, with tournament games spanning platforms as well as decades. Duck Hunt, Street Fighter, Goldeneye 64, and air hockey are just a sample of the wide gamut of games played.
Social Events
In addition to the Xbox gaming events we hold, we have enhanced our community’s social atmosphere by organising events such as ‘Biketacular’, a recurring event which has seen XLANSA members get together for a cycle along the Torrens Linear Path. Our members also had a great time at ‘Paintbrawls’, a paintballing event held at Deep Creek.
